Received his PhD degree at the University of La Laguna (IAC) in 1989. Held postdoctoral positions and extended research visits at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (with M. Arnould), the University of Washington (with G. Wallerstein), University of Uppsala (with K. Eriksson), Centre d’Estudis Avançats de Blanes (with J. Isern) and Osservatorio di Teramo.
In 1995 he was elected professor titular at the University of Granada and later promoted for a full professorship in Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2009. His is currently leading the research group on stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis at the University of Granada.
